Re: 2013 tournament II: Begin Working On Playlists
I use kiwi6 to host my mp3, it allows hotlinking and is a free registration.
I am bitterly disappointed that I didn't get "I'm Still Here" with my last pick - I really thought that was a lock. Oh well, what can you do, hey?
My mix is all about Life, Loss and the Choices that we make. A young man grows up in a loving but disfunctional family. He's given advice on how to live but he sees his parents as kind of hypocritical - they don't practice what they preach, yannow? They say to be happy, live life and all that, but in the end they have an abusive relationship and aren't particularly happy themselves even after starting life with so much love, hope and promise. Our hero sets off with hope and big plans, but ends up making some bad choices and tastes the bitterness of loss - both in love and in life as he is touched by death. In the end he has to make decisions on what he wants to do - is it worth going on? And does any of it really make a difference anyway?
I hope you like the mix - I'm happy with the end result. I don't expect to go far in the competition but I did have a lot of fun participating and look forward to listenning what y'all got for me.
If you at all have a chance I'd really request that you actually listenned to my mix rather than just vote on the songs themselves - the song choices and versions are pretty specific and like the song says, it does make a difference.
01. Of the Girl (Benaroya '03)
02. Hard to Imagine (Chicago Cab Soundtrack)
03. Breath (RVM)
04. Alone (Lost Dogs)
05. Improv (pre-Habit Mansfield '98)
06. Hold On (Acoustic)
07. 4-20-02
08. Otherside (Lost Dogs)
09. Gone (Demo)
10. Indifference (Sydney '03)

Re: 2013 tournament II: Begin Working On Playlists
Varis, you have one of the best lists of the group, but I prefer other versions of a lot of those songs. Do you want me to just take into account the versions you have listed or just use what I hear in my head if I were to piece it together? I'm listening to your whole thing now =) It's lovely.Varis wrote:I use kiwi6 to host my mp3, it allows hotlinking and is a free registration.

Cheers. Mix is a mix, y'know? I'm happy for you to go with what you want to, but for the purposes of making my mix I chose those specific versions.HardTI wrote:Varis, you have one of the best lists of the group, but I prefer other versions of a lot of those songs. 'sfunny because I actually prefer some different versions myself (Hold On for instance, and even Gone), but in the end these versions seemed to fit the mood I was going for a bit better I think.

Re: 2013 tournament II: Begin Working On Playlists
the playlists dont have to make up your mind, but they were just something new to add to the probably 10th or so time we have done these tourneys. so you can vote on the list of songs, or how much you like the playlist that was put together, or a combination of both

I'm not going to have any time to make the actual playlist. But here's the tracklist/order for mine:
1. Nothing As It Seems
2. No Way
3. Red Mosquito
4. Cropduster
5. Evacuation
6. Amongst the Waves
7. Sunburn
8. Army Reserve
9. Immortality
10. Around the Bend
All the standard studio versions from their respective albums.

Re: 2013 tournament II: Begin Working On Playlists
I said this earlier, but I'm envisioning, not a story, per se, but a cycle of a person whose life is one personal betrayal after another to the point they despair of every connecting to anyone else, who eventually learns to work through their past so they can believe in other people. I wanted to have someone else guide them through this process but didn't get the songs.
