Or may be impossible to achieve.

Nevertheless, “business as usual is so, so great” is the worst take a Democrat running for President could take, in terms of winning the election and in terms of the implications for our future.

It's just always difficult to get people to do something for a time when they'll be long dead. It's why one of my pet peeves when it comes to environmental politics is dramatically emphasizing AGW when there's a lot of very terrible things that fossil fuels do right now that I think can be more actionable politically.

It may indeed be an unwise move for Biden, but I could also see him or another Democrat being able to cobble together other planks to make a viable platform where the environmental plank isn't as strong. We shall see.

I completely agree with this and I suspect it's actually counterproductive to efforts to slow down AGW.

I think that buffoon has helped drive some of the more honest, important debates in our country (minimum wage, health care, the corporate control of our politics, relations with Iran/Saudia Arabia/Israel, etc.)

There are more immediate implications and worthy discussions for the Alabama law, but since we’re here...

Women and minorities: (win a wave election)

Democrats: Interesting. (immediately begin to worry whether their candidates are white and male enough)

Republicans: (taking positions that poll below 30% nationwide on health care, immigration, abortion rights, and the environment) We are crushing it.

Democrats: (seeing what Republicans are doing) Compromise, white voters, and Joe Biden are now our only chances to win this election.

I live in the Durham, NC area.
Boise is exactly how I expected. Here's my further breakdown by a overlay I've created:

1. Hippy Dippy People's Republic Of The North End (this is where I live)
2. Bougie Left
3. Bougie Right
4. Woke Proletarian Bench
5. Don't you fucking dare call us Boiseans, we aren't in Boise city limits no matter what our address says, that's because we sure as fuck don't want to pay Boise's outrageous taxes
6. Anytown, USA

Are people still opposed to these Faux News town halls? They seem to be pretty fair towards the dems and a good way to bring red team voters into the light (gasp!)

Mayor Pete's Fox town hall was excellent. Opposing these out of principle is "preaching to the choir" type stuff. I don't see how there is anything to gain from taking the stance Warren has. She can only potentially alienate the few people who watch Fox and may be on the fence about her.

I remain baffled by this hand wringing over Fox. Sitting Democrats appear on Fox News 30% more often than sitting Republicans do CNN, and 300% more often than Republicans go on MSNBC. A conservative ambition to lean primarily on favorable, insular media is the whole reason Fox News exists in the first place.

Also, in a rational world, candidates not wanting to lend credibility to a news channel that is nightly dabbling in open racism and purposeful distortion of events would be far less of a scandal than a president publicly damning that same channel for daring to give his political opponents air time at all.

It's not just that, it's that she forgoes the chance to set the record straight on her policy ideas and expose Fox viewers to concepts they might not have considered before because of the... tilt that the network often uses. Even if you have no chance at the Presidency, get your voice out there and heard and maybe you plant the seeds that eventually change people's minds. Pop the Fox bubble.

Polling this week continues to be consistent with the last year and a half, perhaps a little worse for the president than in the lead up to the midterms.

Quinnipac poll has him 19 points underwater (still)

It also has some really bad topical shifts in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, and Iowa:
- 41/56 approve/disapprove of his handling of trade
- 39/53 (!) approve/disapprove of his approach to China
- 39/47 say his actions have helped/slowed economic growth

A CBS poll has him 22 points underwater on the topic of immigration, which is some of the worst by-topic polling for a president on any topic this century.

Meanwhile, 56% of voters say they definitely will vote against Donald Trump, including 7% of Trump voters. This is 16 points higher than for any president in the 50 years the question has been used.

Funny thing is though, among recent presidents, the two with the lowest unfavorability ratings both ended up as one termers.
