Re: Let's Actually Watch the Movie: A New Hope
My 11 year old said he was going to watch the original trilogy HD de-specialized editions all in one day. He couldn't do it. I told him it was ambitious and not to feel bad. I tried that at a sleep over when I wasn't much older than him and I made it 30 min into New Hope before falling asleep. My friend was pissed. I was the worst friend at every sleep over. Light weight.

You can buy the 97 dvd set for cheap as chips online. Each of the ot comes with a second disc containing the original films that were shown in cinemas back then. Totally unaltered. Warts and all.
I kinda don’t know why people especially the guys that made those despecialised editions, seem to be unaware of them.
I prefer watching the unaltered cuts except empire. The special edition really works on that one. Bespin particularly is A+ additions of effects and cgi.

Aren't those the ones that are non-anamorphic, have the huge letterboxes and making them hard to watch on smaller TVs?dimejinky99 wrote:You can buy the 97 dvd set for cheap as chips online. Ive never experienced any of that and my tv is only 32 inches. Afaik there’s two different versions one from 97 and another from 99. The later has even more work done on cg etc so perhaps I have that one and those problems were in the earlier?
Not sure tbh

Watching now. Seen it many many times before. Even so, it’s almost surprising how good at it is. There are things in this movie that no Star Wars movie has ever done better.

Watching empire of dreams recently and something kershner said stuck with me.
He initially turned down empire saying why make another one? It’ll just be the first one but not as good. So he signed on under the proviso it would be different (and presumably had total control as Director).

Re: Let's Actually Watch the Movie: A New Hope
If you stand this movie on its own and ignore the rest of the Star Wars universe, you can except the force as "an energy filed that surrounds all living things," but it's just as likely that the force doesn't exist at all. The tricks pulled here (Obi Wan using the power of suggestion on storm troopers, Vader convincing Motti that he's choking) are pulled on earth by hypnotists and con-men all the time. There's nothing that happens in this movie that needs a mystical force that binds the galaxy together (Luke "hears" Obi Wan's voice just like we can still hear the voices of our lost loved ones when we're thinking of them intensely). Prove me wrong.
Also, Obi Wan truther corner: Ben snuck away and killed Owen and Beru so that Luke would leave the planet with him and fulfill his "destiny."

Apparently Boba Fett was hired by Vader. To find whoever and where Skywalker was.
Boba Fett disinitegrated the Lars family.
This is why why Vader says no disintegration to Fett in Empire apparently.
I can’t keep up with canon no more.
