Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

There are things to like about it but it's a miss ultimately. One of Neil Jordan's lesser films.

Totally!

Please see it for yourself, Trag. Absolutely do not take my word for it.

But you asked, so I responded. Doesn't mean you won't love it. Given our overall tastes in general, I fully expect that you will like it, on fact.

I have to agree with this - the first half to 3/4 is fantastic, but then it kind of fell apart for me

Godzilla King Of Monsters.

Ugh. What a bummer...I wanted to like it so much. Even the fights sucked. All the human parts are just the worst piece of shit in a long time.

Literally the last thing I would do with my life at this time is pay $20 to sit in a dark theater and watch a Godzilla movie.

I’m sorry this happened to you, VG!

All the money in the world.

Fascinating. Plummer is so good here, i cant even understand why Spacey did it first. Williams is also good. But its all the production design, the story, the photography and specially Scott who elevates this movie.

Fuck Ridley is such in a great moment, its incredible this guy is doing this movies at his age.

tragabigzanda wrote:Hot takes on movies I can remember watching since I left:

You Were Never Really Here: Generic angry garbage.

The Mule: Wonderful. Old Clint > young Clint

First Reformed: Rocked me to my core. One of my favorite films I’ve ever seen.

Vice: A Michael Moore film starting Christian Bale. Bale’s transformation is magnificent, everything else amounts to one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen garner a bunch of undeserved accolades.

Wildlife: Carey Mulligan is amazing and Paul Dano is a surprisingly competent director. Awoke a lot of feelings about my own childhood. Sleeper favorite after First Reformed.

Glass: Awful movie but McAvoy rules.

The Old Man & The Gun: Romantic, sweet, light, and lovely.

Gosford Park: A bonafide masterpiece.

Bohemian Rhapsody: Won me over despite my skepticism. Glad they kept it light and fun.

There’s more but I can’t thibk of them right now.
Let me see:

You Were Never Really Here: loved it. The photography, the score...Joaquim. Amazing. I love how brutal it was.

Vice: It was a really different kind of biopic. Bold, weird. The scene with the credits at the middle of the movie was amazing.

Glass: Masterpiece. Another bold fuck you type of movies i adore. So fucking bold.

Bohemian Rhapsody: Perhaps one of the worst pieces of shit i saw in a long time. Pretty much every frame was puke.
