It's hard to make those calls since these are super lossy transcodes.

I am really into both songs. Let it Ride is great for the guitar and Cold Confession is one of Vedder's finest moments since 2000 in my books. Really stoked about the new one, I am (helping) having my first child right around then and the Lightening Bolt concept (and song) is hitting home for me right now. Every album has some kind of 'mystical' providential meaning in my life in some small but enjoyable way. Pearl Jam!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I listened to these for the first time today since they leaked -- they both sounded fantastic, even better than I'd remembered. Personally I think "Cold Confession" could have just closed "S/T" in place of "Inside Job" -- ending it on a down note instead of on the Dr. Phil-a-thon that was "Inside Job" would have framed the record a lot differently.

I know it's wishful thinking, but I still hear Cold Confession (re-edit/intro) in this promo:

Completely agree. I'd also switch Big Wave for Let It Ride. That would be a pretty solid album all round.Kevin Davis wrote:I listened to these for the first time today since they leaked -- they both sounded fantastic, even better than I'd remembered. And then Big Wave and Inside Job would be considered as okay bsides. However I'm not sure that side two would work too well. Very mid tempo.iceagecoming wrote:Completely agree. I don't think one or two songs saves it from being 'very mid tempo', personally. It's bland as hell.LetMeSleep wrote:And then Big Wave and Inside Job would be considered as okay bsides. Wishful thinking doesn't cut it I'm afraid. They're nothing alike.Buby wrote:I know it's wishful thinking, but I still hear Cold Confession (re-edit/intro) in this promo:

Let It Ride is great but I don't really get the overwhelming love for Cold Confession. Am I the only one who is annoyed by Eddie's singing style on it? Some of those high notes irk me and it somehow does not feel natural. Everything besides Ed is pretty cool.
It would be so much better if Eddie would shut up at the end with his "HEEE HEEEEE"s.

Just kidding.
I mean, I feel exactly the way you do.
1) Ed should sing a lower key; 2) The song needs more guitar and organ in the middle; 3) Ed needs to shut up after verse two and let the band do their thing.

The key is all right. He just doesn't sing seriously. That ending sounds like a pseudo place holder to me as if the idea was to do some vocalisations at the end but those aren't even close to what would be the final version. It's just thrown in there.Lounge Lizard wrote:stop copying my posts!Mike wrote:Let It Ride is great but I don't really get the overwhelming love for Cold Confession. Musically, the first couple of minutes before Ed starts singing are kind of nice. I like the bass line.
