Re: Mobile Phonography (new first post)
Day twenty-six probably:
Supplies low, morale variable, diarrhea probable and madness rampant. New ideas incoming.
She chews on her lip as she's packing up her things
The wind hits the house like it's running
If time is the way that you measure up these things
Then I'll be the least of your worries
Flies run around on the rabbit in the road
And snakes move around in the flowers
If I were a betting man I'd stay through the night
And see her off in the morning
It's faster than running away
And harder than words on a page
In the end was it just...
...just too much to say?
I'll wait for it
I'll wait for it
I'll wait for it
There's room still for weeping
Between every stitch
And I'll show you a place
Where they still burn a witch
If it doesn't start up
Just give it a kick
And wait for it
Wait for it
Wait for it
She snaps it at the base and puts it in her hair
A twinkling of light in the auburn
You climb her shoulders to catch a breath of air
And leave her there at the bottom

Cicada sounds great, Mc. Trumpet is a nice touch. Day twenty-six probably...a cell phone? You sure?
Can you run me through the process? Do you use an app to record? Do you have to output the tracks one at a time into a mixing program? What kind of files do you get from the phone?

Re: Mobile Phonography (new first post)
I use this: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/multitra ... 22101?mt=8
It's pretty basic...just allows for multiple tracks, is all. I've never tried doing anything more with it than multitracking (I literally just learned about the reverb from seeing that picture while finding the link to include here).
I adjust the input volume if I don't want a part distorted at all. For most of this stuff I pretty much fix the volume levels and then I do a mild compression/low end EQ adjustment once I have it in Audacity to bring the volume up....with the song in the new clip, I recorded the guitar pretty quietly and must have placed the phone reallllllllly well, though it's all very hastily done and I have no idea how I managed to get it sounding that way. I also did a touch more EQing, in that I adjusted a few mid range frequencies and some highs (I also EQ'd the theremin, because those things will pierce your goddamn ears if you don't). That's about it, I guess.
Generally, even that much work is too much...it goes against the immediacy of it...but I've been really low on stuff to do at work lately, so I decided to give it a shot.

Oh, and yeah, I output the files individually by emailing them to myself. You can copy them direct, but the computer I have my iphone sync'd to isn't the computer I use to work on music.

Re: Mobile Phonography (new first post)
No morning should ever be as productive as this one. It's overwhelming to have this much suddenly piled on me.
Dulcimer. Wonderful, shimmery dulcimer. Twenty minutes worth, spread out over three different melodies.
Woozy polka accordion.
And ten minutes of this guy...

Re: Mobile Phonography (new first post)
I've just listened to all this for the first time. It's really, really excellent stuff, all of it. I would buy an album. Hell, I would buy a boxset. You're clearly aware of production values and arrangement and all that good stuff. Real ear candy here. (And I don't hear many up and coming artists with so many vocal styles under their belt.)

Thanks, harm.
Things have been a little slow the second half of this week, but I'm excited to fight to get it back again this weekend.

Ashokan.
I have
to leave you behind me,
can you promise
at least
you will stay there?
In the twinkling of the light
of the moon on the water
in the silence of Ashokan blue?
It was there,
again,
that old gypsy hustle.
You promise these things
without thinking.
Well, damn your "then again,"
and your weathervane weeping.
You be the ghost,
and I'll haunt you.

Lose track of time.
That's all that I'm asking.
Spread out your toys on the lawn.
And we'll have a go
at chasing the sun down.
I don't even care if we don't.
You carried
the lion
right to its supper.
Did you secretly like it that way?
And did you decide
you could no longer fix it,
open all the windows
and leave?
Now there's a hole
in the fence where they forced it,
and a sign that says
"nothing remains."
But the warnings we give
mean nothing to no one,
and the world
just keeps coming in.
These children grow tall.
They don't ask about you.
They don't have to
know how it feels,
when your heart is on the ground,
and your dreams lay around you,
under skies of Ashokan blue.

Once I figure out how to upload sound files from my mobile phone, you're all in for a real treat.
