I mean everybody has acknowledged all along that their success, like all teams, is health dependent. They pretty clearly would have won again this year if they were even close to healthy. Injuries have been the only thing that could beat them for 3 seasons, it finally happened in a heckuva avalanche.

Poor Klay.

Poor Klay.

It's a combination of their age, the timing of the injuries (and severity), and the huge contracts they are about to sign. If they were minor injuries they could just reload and try again next year. That won't be the case.

Well, next year is certainly wide open now. At least until somebody builds a new superteam in the next few weeks.

The team is leaving Oakland to play for rich bandwagon fans at their trillion dollar new arena and the product is going to be Steph, declining Draymond and spare parts? Meanwhile, the new superteam is going to be built somewhere else. 5 seed and no longer the cool destination spot to jump to sounds like just about the worst case scenario for them.

How aggressive can they be even if they want to be? They can go over the cap to sign their own guys, but they can't offer anything besides the minimum and exceptions to anybody else, right?

How aggressive can they be even if they want to be? They can go over the cap to sign their own guys, but they can't offer anything besides the minimum and exceptions to anybody else, right?

Depends on the timing of signings. If Durant leaves, they could wait to sign Klay and would have a little space to sign someone above the minimum and exceptions. Especially if Livingston retires. I'm no cap expert though, so I'm sure I'm missing something.

As Klay was writhing in pain David Griffin texted whoever is in charge of the Lakers that the price just went up again.

It's kinda incredible how amazingly things totally out of their control have gone for New Orleans in the last couple weeks.

I haven't even started to ponder the consequences and chain reactions these injuries will have on the rest of the league.
