I’m definitely disappointed in the way people voted (my own team aside). I was hoping people would actually realize how good so many of the deeper STP cuts are. But these teams are here based on having the biggest hit singles. Shrug. Not nearly as interesting or fun as it could have been.

LV has a great team and deserves to be in the finals. It takes stones to pick obvious singles in the beginning with this kind of OB crowd, but STP has written some of the best radio singles and LV absolutely stole them. That alone makes a great team, and his deep cuts are mined gold too.

I just wish the matchup was a classics-heavy team versus a really creative team of Tiny Music and Purple-era underdogs, I guess.

The thing you have to remember is that the overall voting populace probably hasn’t heard most of the deeper cuts to which you’re referring. And since we didn’t include any YouTube samples with the songs, those people, by and large, aren’t going to do the necessary legwork to really give each song/ team a chance.

My strategy was to try and combine both approaches. Pick a couple of well known tracks and mix in a somewhat obscure tune I really liked. After the first couple rounds, tho, all their best known songs were pretty much gone. And their absolute most popular we’re chosen by these two teams.

In the end, in tournaments like this, the teams with the most recognizable songs are gonna win.
