The Dave Letterman thread
If you haven't watched Dave's new show, you should. The Ellen interview in this new season is incredibly moving.
Howard Stern and Obama in Season 1 were fantastic too.

I might have started tearing up when Kanye walked out onto the stage. I love that man.

It was fascinating to see him talk about mental illness. He seemed surprised about Dave's past issues with it as well.LoathedVermin72 wrote:I might have started tearing up when Kanye walked out onto the stage. I love that man.

Of course I immediately thought of you when I saw Kanye’s face on the preview screen recently.LoathedVermin72 wrote:I might have started tearing up when Kanye walked out onto the stage. I love that man.
I watched the Obama one and enjoyed it, but for some reason I haven’t made this one of my regular shows. I think I just never have the time.

Yeah, an interview show is a tough ask with the number of scripted options.washing machine wrote:Of course I immediately thought of you when I saw Kanye’s face on the preview screen recently.LoathedVermin72 wrote:I might have started tearing up when Kanye walked out onto the stage. I love that man.

Totally. They make podcasts for that sort of thing.Monkey_Driven wrote:Yeah, an interview show is a tough ask with the number of scripted options.washing machine wrote:Of course I immediately thought of you when I saw Kanye’s face on the preview screen recently.LoathedVermin72 wrote:I might have started tearing up when Kanye walked out onto the stage. Nice! I didn't realize this was back on. The Howard Stern interview was so good. The show itself is such a good idea.
Edit: yes I suppose there are limitations here, but I feel like this is somewhere between the podcast model and what you see on TV. A somewhat scripted hour long interview that does get personal, and has a really good host.

That Lewis Hamilton eps was pretty great. Letterman was in heaven on that track.

Re: My Next Guest Needs No Introduction
Aging funnymen like Letterman and Stern “maturing” into old-timers who want their legacy to be their (totally bland and uninteresting) newfound interest in SERIOUS and INTIMATE and LONGFORM “conversations” (a concept aped from podcasters, particularly Marc Maron) is the comedy equivalent of has-been 50something rock stars making sterile, irrelevant albums worshipping “the blues.”
