Agreed
What about that opening baseline on Jar of Flies feels like Sap? Nothing.

So the opening line of Enter Sandman sounds like all previous Metallica?

Enter Sandman sounds like previous Metallica in a way. But it was also in your face(production style, melodic opening) in a way that said they were ready for the stadiums, the mainstream, and done with speed metal.

Swordfishtrombones

maybe The Wall? It slaps a sneering, bitter, over the top theatricality on the style that post-Obscured Floyd had developed. I feel like it would have been a statement at that time and place.

Vitalogy. No Code.

It Takes a Nation if Millions (discount track one if it helps)

Highway 61 Revisited.

Tonight’s the Night.

What’s Going On.

Sometimes sounds completely different than the earlier records. It’s also the first PJ album to start with a non rocker. If Hail Hail opened the album you might be right. But it didn’t, and you’re not. :D

Sonic Youth: Sister

First really song-centric album in SY's catalog. Evol was getting there, but still had one foot in the murkiness of their no wave period. Also, Shelley had joined the band for Evol, but his drums on the first few bars of this one really announce his presence in the band.

Talking Heads: Remain in Light

From the get-go, the polyrhythyms hit you hard and don't let up for an entire side of the record. Born Under Punches is pretty much just saying "This is an album full of instruments and sounds. Listen to it now" as boldly as it can.

I know what you mean.

Also, have we all kind of forgotten Yankee Hotel Foxtrot because it’s just so very obvious an answer for this topic? Fun thread idea, by the way.
