I’m rewatching The New York Ripper. Haven’t seen this in probably 15 years. God this new Blu-ray is gorgeous.

My initial opinion from 15 years ago is holding up. This movie is fucking boring. Kinda crazy that a movie so sleazy can be so dull.

Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I watched a YT of the 'uncut' vs 'cut' version but I recall all the cut scenes on the version I watched that was on Amazon Prime a bit ago. Other than the quality upgrade did it include further scenes? Not asking you to remember 15 years ago but you may have come across the info recently.

I did, and I’ve got really mixed feelings on Gilliam. He definitely has a vision, and I often enjoy watching his flicks just to see his kooky ideas come to life. But there’s also a coldness that infects many of his movies, almost like he doesn’t like his own characters. Reitman suffers from the same problem, albeit in more banal settings.

Yeah that describes The Man a lot too. It was the kind of not great film that a good filmmaker can make, a lot of really interesting scenes, but there was something weirdly austere about this supposed comedy
