I think it was in the old Thrawn trilogy it had Leia sensing the evil above endor and it’s the spirit of Palpatine trapped there. Or something.

They could cherry pick something like that.

But I very much doubt he’ll be back physically. It’ll be a sith relic imbued with his spirit. They’ve been doing this in the new comics a bit.

One thing that Rebels, Clone Wars, and books are/were heavy on is stuff like Jedi artifacts and traditions. I wish the movies would tap into that a little more. I'm talking about stuff like the holocrons, dark saber (I know, not Jedi), construction of the light sabers with crystals, the brother/sister story, that journey yoda went on to learn to be a force ghost, the time portal stuff. That kind of stuff is really cool. Not saying the movies have to make it a feature, but just throw something in there with like a 2 minute history. Some old guy giving Finn the dark saber, and telling him about the storied history behind the weapon. (I know that is cheesy, I'm just using it as an example). Or Rey on a journey to build her own light saber, etc.

Ridley: Genre-wise, it’s different from the other two, which will become clear when the film comes out. It's quite emotional. There's a different drive than the previous two films, but there's a lot of fun. I really missed John (Boyega) during the last one, but we're back together and now Oscar (Isaac) is part of it. To me, it felt like kids going on an adventure.

Q: There's been an intense obsession with Rey's parents, and many fans were dissatisfied when they were revealed to be "nobodies" in "The Last Jedi." Is there more to their story in the new film?

Ridley: (Director J.J. Abrams) did say the question is answered. So at the end of the film, you do know what the dealio is.

Q: Writer/director Rian Johnson received a ton of backlash online after "The Last Jedi," with many fans petitioning to remake the film and redeem Luke Skywalker's character. Were you surprised at all by the controversy?

Ridley: I wasn't surprised, no. It’s just a different thing. Everyone’s going to have an opinion now anyway on the internet, but I also think it’s fair. If people hold something incredibly dear and think they know how it should be and it's not like that, it’s fair for people to think they were done wrong. It doesn’t mean they were – ultimately, Rian’s a filmmaker and one person can’t dictate how a film is supposed to be – but freedom of expression, sure.

I saw that John Williams loved TRoS. I know that 99,99% of everyone that says something about a big movie before it's out, will say something positive. So it's not surprising in that context. But it did still puzzle me. I can't remember seeing that from him before. Tried to look it up for previous movies, but mostly found quotes about him not being interested in watching Star Wars. "In a feature with The Times, Williams said he likes what he has seen “very much”."

Until TRoS is released we won't. Afterwards we will all have a new perspective on it.

If they don't even mention it in TRoS, it will be very poor. But let's say Zori Bliss is the mother, there are many ways that could work, even if she used to be a junk trader. That would even be in line with the TLJ explanation.

I think some see it as a "blue blood" vs "any kid can be a jedi" conversation, which is miles away from how I think of it.

There are two parts of it: 1. it has to make sense inside the trilogy itself, and so far it falls flat for me after TLJ. 2. It has to make sense as part of the nine movie saga. And so far it doesn't.
