I'll vote for Vs. and No Code.
Does R.E.M. have an album that fits the criteria? I'll say Life's Rich Pageant.

I think about :
Weezer - Pinkerton (everything in Tired of Sex, from the music, title to lyrical content, marks a departure from the Blue album)
The Cure - Seventeen seconds (haunting piano intro), then again with the compilation Japanese Whispers
Kendrick Lamar - To pimp a butterfly
Lana Del Rey - Ultraviolence (dark dreamy sound)
Silverchair - Neon Ballroom (they introduced the orchestral sound on a previous b-side, " Untitled ")
The Tragically Hip - Man Machine Poem (sadly their last album)
Not sure about this one : Miles Davis - In a silent way (the transition must have begun before...)

It might be their very first album but the first few bars in Led Zeppelin I make a huge statement. The start of Good Times Bad Times is about as say goodbye to the 60s psychedelia as it gets.
