Not a great stance for a US fan to take.
Also the correct answer for the last decade is Argentina. WC and two straight Copa flops

That's fucking stupid. From a population and world standing standpoint, Argentina has consistently punched above its weight.

Mexico is headed to extra time against Haiti in the Gold Cup right now. 0-0.Mickey wrote:Oh okay man, for sureverb_to_trust wrote:You don't know shit about international footballMickey wrote:Not a great stance for a US fan to take.

Meanwhile Argentina has won 14 Copas and 2 World Cups. Stick to Marxism, dumbass

El Tri are actually a lot like Mickey: they have an inflated sense of self worth and superiority that they have done exactly nothing to earn.

Look Bryan, you're an unbearably stupid person--which is fine, I still think you deserve healthcare and a living wage. But for a team to "choke" on an international level, there basically by definition has to be a presumption that they should have succeeded, which is precisely why Argentina in the past decade fit that standard by your own admission. Certainly I'd hear the argument that they didn't deserve to win against a great German squad in the WC, okay. But to go out on pks against fucking Chile in 2015 is a choke job and then to do it AGAIN in 2016 (with Messi missing his shot in the second contest) is really something quite special.verb_to_trust wrote:Mexico is headed to extra time against Haiti in the Gold Cup right now. 0-0.Mickey wrote:Oh okay man, for sureverb_to_trust wrote:You don't know shit about international footballMickey wrote:Not a great stance for a US fan to take.

Re: The Beautiful Game (The All Inclusive Soccer Thread)
Just to be clear, this argument doesn't make any fucking sense. Argentina has a comparable population to Spain, twice that of Chile, four times that of Portugal. Their GDP per capita is almost identical with Mexico's and significantly higher than that of Brazil and Colombia. They're long positioned themselves as the most European of South American countries, play a significant role in global politics, and boast pockets of extreme (relative) wealth that help foster a pretty robust youth soccer system in a country plagued with inequality.run2death wrote:That's fucking stupid. Thanks for proving our point.
Mexico has 3 times the population and the same GDP per capita and has never made a WC semifinals, while Argentina has been in the finals 5 times.

Re: The Beautiful Game (The All Inclusive Soccer Thread)
Mexico will probably win the Gold Cup final but anytime the USMNT has been even close to competent they have beaten Mexico. Yet, the delusional El Tri fans honestly think they are world cup favorites every 4 years. Then they lose their first knockout game every cycle. It's way more pathetic than anything Argentina has gone through despite their failings with Messi.run2death wrote:Thanks for proving our point.

Which makes it all the more ridiculous. They have won exactly nothing in world football. Nothing.LetMeSleep wrote:Outside of America, Mexico are quite highly regarded.

They're a competitive team who seem to reach the round of 16 quite consistently.

They can finish top two in their WC group after qualifying out of the easiest region? Wow. Amazing.LetMeSleep wrote:They're a competitive team who seem to reach the round of 16 quite consistently.
