the band used to write, record, and release entire albums in the same amount of time that eddie's done nothing with this river song

I really hope this last two years of nothing but a really good tour make these guys come back with something. Jeff, Matt and Mike are surely into a great creative mind space.

Stone? i guess so specially after Chris´s tribute and that RS article. Ed? Who knows. Maybe after this solo tour and The Who´s show.

But damn its been so long.

They have never disappointed me before. Even LB, their weakest album, its a good one. So, yeah im sure ill like the new one but i do believe they have been taking a ridiculous amount of time to make it.

Hopefully, their return will be as interesting as always. Their chemistry is there, last years show in Italy was one of the best i saw.

At what point do they just have Mark Ronson start writing their songs?

Interesting. I find the opposite to be true. When PJ was active and putting out new and mostly very good music on a regular basis, I found even average material was elevated simply by the fun of being a fan of the band (if this was 2001, I'd probably be hanging on every word of this nothing song Eddie has been peddling). Now that they do basically nothing, and there's no compelling story to follow, the snozzberries taste like snozzberries.

Mileage varies on the enjoyment of any song. In this early unfinished form of finished.
I may be enjoying this as it’s the first new one ive heard from him in forever and a drink in a desert is heavenly. But I can also see there’s not just the bones of but a really huge potential for this to be a fantastic song if handled right by either him or the band or both.

And! It gives me a ton of hope that he can write something that gets me excited at this stage. Thats selfish perhaps but personally I think the songs a win and hope we get it in some finished form at some point.
This could be a brilliant classic pj atmos vibe song like a darker release or of the girl or sleight of hand but bigger and better if done right.
I just hope it gets to that point and they pull it off

Theyre still so goddamn young but their lack of activity over the past 10 years makes it very hard to believe they have much left in them. I dont know. Perhaps a resurgence is possible but its hard to not wonder if they just lost their creative spark completely. Of course, I have no idea what they are doing behind the scenes. For all we know theyve been busy. Its just hard to imagine really.

Guys, they’re channeling their energy into raising kids. It may get better once the offspring become moody, isolated teenagers or out of the house completely, but the band’ll be in their sixties by then too, so any output will be lame anyway.

THIS.
except for the second part, Springsteen seems to enjoy a good ride in his sixties, why not PJ too?

This x100. Bruce sees song writing as in his soul, not just his job between surfing vaca's.

LOL at Eddie busting out covers of Rebel Rebel and Imagine at PJ shows when he’s sitting on a bunch of good songs.

Even though I think they are capable of writing new great songs, they won’t be in a scenario to make a great record. They will pick a boring comfortable studio, a boring producer, try to create songs that are easy to replicate live, and have the producer use modern digital studio techniques/shortcuts to ensure the album has no soul.

Uh oh
