Maybe, but is it really a Pearl Jam song?

Good point. Ed’s solo numbers seem to fall into two or three categories. Songs like the End and songs like Unthought known or Can’t Keep.

Some make the transition better than others I guess.
It’s In the same category as Soon forget perhaps

yeah it's one of many songs that is not so hot any more
fun and easy to play on guitar, though.

I'm not a huge Crazy Mary guy in general. And I don't listen to live shows regularly like a lot of RMers. But I think Boom dramatically improves the song. His organ jams have become probably my favorite thing about the song.

What hurts the live versions for me is Ed's weird chirping. When did he start doing that?

Didn't he start making chirping / animal noises on the Into the Wild soundtrack?

Holy EFF! He does chirp those lyrics... I'll never unhear it now.

If I remember correctly, Houston '00 had a great performance of this song. I wonder if he chirped it way back then.

I really have no idea when it started. But it drives me crazy. I wish he'd just sing the words like he used to. Even if he wants to emphasize them in some way, there's a better way to do it.

I always assumed he was trying to affect a hiccup, like he’s a drunk Looney Tunes character, and it is awful.

It doesnt get much better than the studio version. Though in person - its a heck of a crescendo .
