Taste of Philly:

Philly cheese steak with lots of peppers and onions!

Waiting on an oil change before the big trip... (see travel thread... I need your help).

A steak sandwich on a homemade sweet bun. The steak was locally raised by a farmer a mile from my parent's house.

It was fantastic!

It looks sort of gratuitous to me. I’m extremely picky with my horror — I like to be scared in a fun way, not in a way that’s upsetting. Midsommar sounds upsetting, and also the final sequence sounds both gratuitous and kind of silly. And isn’t it like 2.5 hours long? I’ve simply lost my taste for self-inflicted suffering.
Thank you for finally addressing this. I really appreciate it. If you'd like any feedback or discussion (as someone who has seen the film) let me know.

Just a bit of butter on the bun and some pepper jack cheese. No need to get crazy.

Well I’d gladly hear your take on it; would appreciate understanding what you might have found enjoyable about it
I hate horror as a genre. This movie isn't gratuitous or silly. I imagine someone like LV who adores the genre wouldn't even classify this as a horror film. To me, it's a great commentary on nationalism and sexism. I thought it was entertaining and thought provoking without being manipulative or pandering in any way. The final sequence especially. It's hard to say there isn't any "self-inflicted" suffering. There is, but it's all about context and statement. To me, it's opening up a valuable conversation and a provides a super prescient and timely context.

There is a sequence in the middle of the film which I found extremely upsetting but in a true horror way, not in any gratuitous way. The ending is necessary and poignant without being exploitative or manipulative at all. In fact, I'd argue the ending is funnier than it is horrific, which is one of the things I would imagine LV (for example) would hate about the film.

Though if you're looking for "haunted house" kind of fun thrills, then this is absolutely not the film for you. It is upsetting in it's social deconstruction and it's current real world conversation. To me, that's what horror should be... a reflection of the world around us. And Midsommar has that in spades.
