S1 definitely has the closest feel to the movie (and to the Coen's work in general). So far, S3 has also had a lot of that tone/quality to it. But I'm only 2 episodes in. It's hard to say one way or the other. But I like your breakdown, trag.

Yeah, I agree S1 felt like a Coens' series, but in S2 Hawley really came into his own

I can see that. And ultimately, that's probably why I come down on the side of S1. As great as S2 is (and it is wonderful) I missed some of the horror and the black comedy. I want it to feel more like the movie/Coens' canon.

S3, so far, seems to be leaning back toward that stuff. But, again, we'll see what happens down the stretch. S2 ended so much better than I could have dreamed. Those last few episodes were outstanding. S3 could just as easily disappoint in the final run.

Well if they took it out of MN, what would be the point of that? I like that we're slowly seeing the lineages of these peoples' families and other connections, but that it's not delivered like some Lonesome Dove style epic drama.

S3 was outstanding. That finale was probably my favorite season finale of the series so far.
