I was in a restaurant and Paradise City came on. I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Truthfully I would not call myself a GnR fan. Maybe when I was 11-14 years old circa 1988-1992. At that point I was just listening to what my older brothers were listening to.

It goes something like this: 1984-1988 - basically knew nothing about rock music but for knowing songs like Thriller and Born in the USA. 1988-1992 - listened to what my brothers listened to with the top bands being Guns N Roses, Metallica, Van Halen, Aerosmith and Motley Crue. Van Halen was probably the only band I stuck through all of that, though I occasionally enjoy a nastalgic trip with the others. There was some good stuff mixed in there, like Faith No More, Jane’s Addiction,, Red Hot Chili Peppers. 1992-93: a short pop/rap phase that featured Naughty By Nature, Cypress Hill, and Geto Boys. 1993: really discover Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, and Led Zeppelin. This, at 15, would be what shapes my music tastes for life.

All that being said, I ran yesterday to Appetite for Destruction based on this thread. It was much better than i expected. I mean it’s really crazy stuff to write about and some of the lines are seriously cheesy, but the album holds up exceptionally well for being cutting edge in 1987.

What do you do when you want silence on your train ride home but the person blasting their headphones is playing best of the 90s and it’s not bad?

Lifting this from the Soundgarden thread:

My Bloody Valentine's m b v is this for me. In fact, I like it more than Loveless, which I'm sure is basically heresy to most fans.

Spenno will love this one but can "The Rising" count for Bruce Springsteen. 18 years between Born in the USA and The Rising. Pretty damn good comeback even though they had played some shows over the years in between
