This latest track really is the most egregious example of how far they’ve fallen, to my ears. It’s like their own mini Lightning Bolt.
Isn't it more akin to their Scream? The big criticism on Lightning Bolt is that it was by-the-numbers PJ. This is SK taking a big swing at something not in their wheelhouse, no?

"Scream" is a great comparison, though Cornell didn't seem nearly as impervious to poor judgment at that stage in his career. I'm not as big of a Sleater-Kinney fan as most here, but even in their lesser moments they always seemed like the kind of band whose instincts wouldn't fail them. But the more of these songs that come out, the more this whole project just feels like a big swing and a miss.

I thought it was a perfectly balanced post!

Positive:
(1) Complimented evenslow's comparison of new S-K to "Scream"
(2) Spoke well of S-K's historical record of good artistic judgment

Negative:
(1) Implied that "Scream" was not Cornell's first artistic misstep
(2) Negative impression of new S-K material

50/50!

Just to be clear you haven’t heard it and everyone says it sucks but you are convinced you’ll love it simply because it’s like a girl power thing?

I've found that the way Carrie sings is noticably more obnoxious when the music sucks. Like, she has the same exaggerated vocal inflections on the Woods but I don't care because the Woods rocks.
