yuck. This article does not paint a flattering picture to me. I understand it's all subjective: Producers often put their stamp on an album, and they either gain some accolades, or take all the blame. But this sounds like some pretty heavy-handed production.

And I want to stress I'm not trying to pile on Joe or VG after all the hate the last few pages; if you're someone who loved Masseduction (I did not), I totally get why you'd be digging these new songs. And it's clear this is a divisive SK album, and I've made my position known. But this article just bolsters my current Sleater-Kinney worldview:

Yeah, I agree this doesn't reflect entirely positively on the creative process that went into this record.

i just listened to the B-52s "Hero Worship" and it's like 1000x better than any of these new S-K songs

That’s setting a very tough standard, the B-52s rule.

I listened to the title track of the new S-K, first time I’ve heard anything from the record (I’m broadly familiar with their past material but never owned any of their records and am not a fan in general): I liked it, it was better than I expected to be honest.

These songs really feel like an extension of Wild Flag, and wed probably be way more excited about them if it was Wild Flag.
