Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. Yeah, I was expecting more. That really doesn't look like "return to the form"

I'm not sure how it could be more of a "return to form." It literally looks like Days of Heaven 2 visually but remixed with some modern-Malick camera work.

Maybe "Greatest Hits" would be a better label than "Return to Form." But I think it's looks just as good (or bad) as any other Malick film.

I don't think any story is inherently lazy or uninteresting. That's just not a criticism I'm very interested in. It also seems weird to say "that looks bad" and also say "the visuals look great."

I guess saying "return to the form" was me hoping for something similar as The Thin Red Line or The New World, something with more structure, and less "aimless wandering" à la Knight of Cups or To The Wonder. I like his early films, but TTRL is by far my favorite film of his.

I generally think Malick is overrated. An extremely talented filmmaker making extremely pretentious choices.

Days of Heaven is one of my favorite movies, Badlands is also great. Meh to the rest.
