Sparkle Hard was an instant classic for me. Very well rounded and straightforward without losing any of that SM charm. Hearing this one makes me understand “Rattler” more. I always thought that track was the only awkward moment on the album (though it’s GREAT live.)Blaine Ryan wrote:It reminded me of Bowie a little bit. And David Byrne for its "white dude with no groove" purposeful ridiculousness.
I'll reserve judgment until I hear the record. I really like Sparkle Hard.
This track, and probably this whole album, feels very derivative. I hear Kraftwerk, obviously. Your David Byrne comparison is apt too. However, as unoriginal as it all sounds, it feels completely different for Malkmus. No guitars? Deeper voice? I weirdly like it. I’ll be very curious to hear what his sets will sound like on this tour.
