No Code repress?
Hey, I know there's probably a huge fucking thread on this, so sorry if this a faux pas, but what's the consensus on the sound quality/pressing of the No Code reissue? Kinda been getting back into that one after a prolonged break and shit, I might need a new copy. Thanks!

Ah shit, yeah I remember hearing something about a lyric change. That's weird/crappy.

It's fine. Not terrible, but not great either.

Re: No Code repress?
To be fair, almost every vinyl release in the last 25 years has been pressed from a digital master of some kind, including (I believe) all of the band's original 90s vinyl releases.tragabigzanda wrote:I’ve not listened to it, but as a matter of technical detail:
1) it was pressed from digital masters
2) it contains a lyric change in Who You Are
As I’ve got an OP vinyl, I’ve got no use for this version
I haven't heard the reissues but I understood the consensus was that they sound pretty good, at least on par (if not slight improvements) over the original pressings.
Yeah, the lyric change is weird but at least it's kind of an interesting anomaly. Unless I'm wrong, I think it was an "alternate mix used in error" scenario, not a deliberate attempt to fiddle with the past.

I don’t think it was an accident. It was the same version on RVM.Birds in Hell wrote:

I kind of suspect nobody involved turned their mind to which was the original version.CopperTom wrote:I don’t think it was an accident. It was the same version on RVM.Birds in Hell wrote:

Re: No Code repress?
I can't speak for the pressing quality - but the sound quality/mastering on all Pearl Jam reissues is garbage.super nintendo chalmers wrote:Hey, I know there's probably a huge fucking thread on this, so sorry if this a faux pas, but what's the consensus on the sound quality/pressing of the No Code reissue? Worse and more "modern" than the originals, and deliberately so.
It's purely a vanity/object/$$$ thing with them and has zero to do with the sound quality or "preserving the analog chain".

Re: No Code repress?
I thought someone pointed out a while back that "Avalanche" is probably the original lyric. They went back in and you can hear the edit on No Code where it sounds like Ed changed the lyric after the fact and that's why all the subsequent versions released have had the "change." Because it's the original line on the tape before the change.
Did I dream that?

It’s so jarring every time I hear the Who You Are lyric change. Does anyone want my No Code reissue vinyl for free?

Re: No Code repress?
Definitely has something to do with it being one of my favorite songs, and No Code being probably my favorite PJ album. No big deal, the secondary market prices on original pressings have been coming down a lot over the last year.

Why don't you just play red mosquito instead of that one line or two.swan wrote:It’s so jarring every time I hear the Who You Are lyric change. Does anyone want my No Code reissue vinyl for free?
Red mosquito has alot of swell parts.
P.s I mean the song, not this rat hole
