Carwyn Ellis & Rio 18 - bossa nova sung in Welsh. This is pretty damn cool actually. I've always loved Gilberto Gil's output, and this stuff takes me back around to that, so that's all good by me.

Here's Gwen from their album "Joia":

Battles are now a two piece after the departure of Dave Konopka and they have a new album out October 18, Juice B Crypts. It's going to be more in the vein of Gloss Drop in that there's going to be a lot of features on this one. Here's the lead single, "Titanium 2 Step" featuring Sal Principato:

Following up from my prior post about the new 65daysofstatic material, here's the first taste of their upcoming full-length, "Popular Beats":

:peace: Nice to see you guys digging the Battles track. I figured it might get some attention on here. I'm honestly lukewarm on Battles overall; some songs are stellar, some absolutely forgettable. I wasn't big on the guest vocals on Gloss Drop, and I'm not real keen on this one, either, so I'm cautiously interested in what the rest of the album offers.

Big Thief's first single from their second record this year. It may be my favorite in a catalog of songs that is already incredible.

Lukewarm on Big Thief (pseudo folk, Americana, indie dreck), but fuck that song is good. The solo...sheesh. I might have to go see them in October.

But fuck, this other band from NY, Weak Signal has one of my favorite records of the year.

You’re not wrong but Lightning Bolt came out in 2013 not 2019.

Norman Fucking Rockwell might have the legs to be the best of the year. But The Center Won't Hold still has the top spot for me as of right now. We'll see how each one ages & grows.

Mattiel is noted as a "Jack White approved" Americana act, but to me this is more poppy than anything else. Reminds me a bit of old Michelle Shocked to be honest, and I was a fan there.

Anyways, the album is called Satis Factory and is an enjoyable listen front to back. Here's "Keep the Change":
