i think the people that are annoyed about SBM just cant see it being good. if they knew it was gonna be good then they would be fine with it being on the album, and most seem to think OTE is good so it being on the album is less annoying.

How about me? I'm actually glad about SBM 'cause it's by far my favorite from the uke album.
Yet I'm not thrilled at the possibility of OTE. Just don't dig it that much.

Yea, I guess I could see the argument that it might be damaging to a potential casual fan, but if we're posting on this board, we're all gonna buy (or download) the album either way.

I'm not understanding why people are that wound up over SBM. I realize Can't Sleep was released first as a PJ song, but Ed wrote it on the uke didn't he? I seem to recall reading that somewhere.

I think the uke version is cute and all, but the full band version is not just a personal favourite PJ song, but it's one of my favourite PJ recordings sonically.

Point being, I feel like this will be new anyway because they'll probably give it it's own feel with the full band arrangement. I know some people will point to Speed of Sound, but that started life as an acoustic thing anyway and not a uke song. The Riot Act version of Can't Sleep doesn't even have any uke as I recall.

I just listened to SBM last night, and it definitely has the same DNA as a PJ song.

Ed wrote Can't Keep on the Uke and was playing it as early as 2001, prior to Riot Act. I believe Liam Finn was the one who told him to flesh it out as a PJ song.

Exactly. And we have no idea how many Ed songs started out on the Uke. Just because they weren't advertised and talked about, we assume they're 'original' or new songs.

Not really. I wouldn't see it as "What?! They couldn't include OTE but they had to make room for SBM?!"

If OTE is not on this, then it's totally all about the fact that they just weren't able to get a recording of it that captured what they were going for. Which I could totally understand.

The fact that SBM is on here means that they did something with it that made them excited enough to include it here, and that alone intrigues me.

My only disappoint would/will be that the band was not able to record OTE in the way they wanted it to sound. But, of course, we can/will blame BoB for that!

Yes! This. And it ended up being a completely different thing. If you played most people those two pieces of music back to back, for the first time, most wouldn't even clue in that they were the same song.
