Not even my opinion, thoughMonkey_Driven wrote:I think QT is just fucking with us. QT doesn't have to explain every scene or justify his choices. It's in the text.
But are we as an audience allowed to have questions? Are allowed to be critical and interpret on our own? The reason there is a controversy is that it isn't explicit in the text. And if QT is fine with that, then he needs to be fine with people having different takes and opinions about it. If QT isn't fine with it, then the scene is a failure and he didn't a good enough job telling this part of this story.
Highly racist? My goodness.
Of course you are welcome to have your own questions and thoughts on a scene.

I get it. I don't really agree. But I it listening to the people who feel that way, I do understand that reaction.tragabigzanda wrote:I genuinely don't understand how it could be viewed as highly racist?

Again, I'm not really in the "racist" camp. I think QT just made some stupid and bad choices. But I understand what others are expressing. Listening to the criticism with an open mind has helped me understand that perspective. And given that QT has been so defensive about it (in the stuff I've read), that doesn't help. Not a good look for the dude, IMO.tragabigzanda wrote:can you explain what you find racist about it?durdencommatyler wrote:I get it. I don't really agree. I think Kareen Abdul'Jabbar's piece in Deadline on the 16th is super compelling and a good read. I tend to fall more on that side of things as far as this issue is concerned.

So much stupidity. QT is not running for SJW of the year. OUATIH is more like getting drunk with your best friend for what could be the last time. Enjoy it.

What is the point of doing something if the motivation is not to fight for social justice?tree_ wrote:So much stupidity. QT is not running for SJW of the year. OUATIH is more like getting drunk with your best friend for what could be the last time. Enjoy it.

I suspect Tarantino knew exactly the controversy that scene would raise and partly chose to include it for exactly that reason

It’s not a bad theory. Pretty good chance no one would still be talking about that movie at this point.
