I'll back this statement. A friend of mine recently got back from a family trip in Massachusetts and brought back some incredible NE beers for me to try. Really liked the beers from Beer'd Brewing Co, Night Shift Brewing, Mighty Squirrel, Newburgh, and Trillium. The last two are out of NY, the rest were Mass.E.H. Beer'd is in Stonington, CT. Nice guys with a primary focus on IPAs, not necessarily New England style but usually on the higher ABV side. Their '8 Days A Week' is remarkably close to what Zombie Dust used to be. Trillium is also out of Mass.darth_vedder wrote:I'll back this statement. Haha, thanks for the corrections. I was drinking and getting quite buzzed sampling all these beers and don't remember what is what. I just know I can't get any where I am. re: Beer'd, I really liked Dogs & Boats. The citra + mosaic hop combo hits the spot.oasisfan35 wrote:Beer'd is in Stonington, CT. Cigar City Brewing is no joke.
My fav tap-house had a tap takeover with about 6 of their beers and they were all crazy great.

Their taproom in Tampa is worth the trip if you're ever in the area (not that far from the airport, actually, if I remember correctly). Last time I was there they had a ton of specialty brews and they were generally delicious.run2death wrote:Cigar City Brewing is no joke.

Texas, once again catching up with the rest of the country, finally legalized beer-to-go purchasing at breweries as of September 1st. It's not nearly as exciting as the years-long push from craft beer advocates made it out to be.

What part of Texas you will be in would help answer this brewery-related question. I sometimes find that those who live out of state don't really have a grasp on how big this state really is.durdencommatyler wrote:I'm going to be in Texas in November. I totally get how large the state is. But totally valid of you to point that out. I'll be in and around Austin.

Re: You Will Drink Good BEER ... And It Will Be Delicious!
Jester King is my gut answer, even though some loopholes have made beer-to-go there a reality for several years now. I’m really not sure how many of the Austin area breweries are equipped to sell to-go. Presumably the good ones got ahead of the curve on this law and already invested in the infrastructure to do so. Orpheus would be able to get you better reccs probably, but put these spots on your list:
Lazarus Brewing - Great looking taproom and interesting takes on Belgian styles. Located in a good part of Austin for barhopping and eating, too.
(512) Brewing - They make my favorite Texas beer. Pecan Porter. If you catch them at the right time of year, they also make a great double brown. Their IPA is no bullshit take on the style. Also good.
Live Oak Brewing - They make my SECOND favorite Texas beer. Live Oak Hefe. Nothing tastes better in Texas heat. Goes well with everything. Their pils is good too.
Hops & Grain - your standard fridge staples and patio pounders. The One They call Zoe is everywhere, and it’s a great choice if you just want a beer. Very refreshing with tacos. A Pale Mosaic is also very good.
Oasis Brewing - good view of some Austin waterfront in the tap room. What other brewery lists the exact time of sunset on the front page of their website? Metamodern IPA is my favorite Texas session IPA. Low abv mosaic IPA.

And because I'm a Houston fanboy to the max, if you see something called Yellow Rose IPA from Lone Pint or anything from Brash Brewing on tap in Austin, order it. Those are possibly the only really good Houston-area beers available outside of Houston.
(I know this is getting away from your beer to go question, but fuck it. God bless Texas.)
