Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

The book was 50% awesome. Everything with adult Danny — his journey since The Shining and his plot in the book — was WAY better than I had assumed.

The stuff with the villains was weird and clunky.

Because I hate Stephen Sondheim musicals. Because I'm on the fence about Linklater. Because I'm really suspicious of this gimmick. Because Linklater doing a musical is a terrible idea. Because casting young people who are "IT" kids now doesn't mean they'll be interesting two decades from now. Because Merrily is a terrible show. Because musical films, in general, are a stupid....

I love Linklater and Boyhood, and can even get down with some Sondheim (I really like Company), but this sounds awful

I really love some of Linklater's stuff. And I really dislike some of it. Ditto Sonheim, really. Company and Sweeney Todd (for example) are great. I didn't love Boyhood, though and I think applying that idea to this script does not inspire hope in me. Maybe I'm wrong and he'll kill it. I just don't see how Linklater's strengths align well with Sondheim's.
