In my opinion one thing that could restart the troubles would be if Scotland passed legislation for another independence referendum and the UK blocks it. People accept the Good Friday Agreement, that any unification referendum would have to be sensitive to the Unionists just as NI within the UK has to be sensitive to people who want a UI. They accept that this is the reason for NI not having the power to simply unify on majority rule. This could unravel if the UK sticks its oar into Scotland.

Well a UI needs a 50+1 in both NI and Ireland to pass.
It’s not in the gift of the UK to allow or block that as it’s a tenet of the GFA for a ref to be called if there’s sufficient support for it. (That’s growing daily)

They can and will block Scotland having a referendum though.
I think sturgeon should keep her powder dry and wait and see the outcome of the 31st
But i agree. Lot of angry Scots and justifiably so if Westminster doesn’t allow them have it.

In hindsight the timing of the referendum was a massive mistake. No Tory majority (ok there isn't one now) no Brexit. Another terribly timed referendum - "Vote Leave to stop TTIP", with Trump coming in we're looking at TTIP on steroids now. The thing I wonder about NI is when the government will "decide there's support for unification". The parties that want it won the popular vote there in the 2017 General Election after all.
