I can't wait for the reviews that say that the new songs sound like a combination of old songs but really don't.

I'm pretty sure the album cover is the artwork we saw when they first announced the album. I'd be shocked if these weren't from the liner notes.wilkins wrote:
So is this the album cover, or are we still waiting for that? What is the point of this collage?
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

I've been thinking about this quote. I wish we'd heard some of these quotes spoken, rather than reading them, because that can mean the difference between negative and positive. What if the sense was 'It sounds like Pearl Jam, which is something we haven't done in a while'?Dr. Van Nostrand wrote:That they sound like pearl jambada wrote:I can't wait for the reviews that say that the new songs sound like a combination of old songs but really don't.

I'm in love with Lightning Bolt (the song). It's soaring, the kind of the song they haven't done since Yield (Amongst The Waves never did it for me). It's got a great jam at the end. I love the melody.

I know it's not a 10 minute pyschadelic space rock jam in an odd time signature with a bluesy riff and tupperware for percussion, but it just sounds like a great rock song. Hope it's not neutered in the studio (probably will be, I thought Got Some paled in comparison to that Conan performance)

On the bright side, you can't get much paler than the Wrigley performance of LB. The studio version should be good, because there's a decent song in there somewhere.lecherouslittlestump wrote:I know it's not a 10 minute pyschadelic space rock jam in an odd time signature with a bluesy riff and tupperware for percussion, but it just sounds like a great rock song. There's some interesting stuff going on. There's some sort of spacey McCready lick after one of the verses...harmless wrote:On the bright side, you can get much paler than the Wrigley performance of LB. That should've said 'can't get much paler'. Yeah, there are bits I like but other parts are really clumsy.lecherouslittlestump wrote:There's some interesting stuff going on. You should vote for me in the song tournament. I'm the only one with the balls to draft such a kick ass song.lecherouslittlestump wrote:I'm in love with Lightning Bolt (the song). "Clumsy" is a good word for that performance. The whole thing sounded like two left feet.harmless wrote:That should've said 'can't get much paler'. I have to believe the studio version sounds way cooler with more going on b/c they clearly love it so much that they named the album after it.
I have to believe.

Re: Lightning Bolt - October 15
It's a real possibility. I'm nervous that the entire album kind of hangs on it, but also quite relieved, because if it's shit I won't have to try hard to lower expectations, I'll listen to the rest with an open mind. Whatever happens, I'm glad it's the opening song; if you're going to have a title track, it makes sense to open with it. It makes the intention feel clearer and more deliberate.evenslow wrote:"Clumsy" is a good word for that performance. Maybe this will be Pearl Jam's Wish You Were Here!
