This is obviously off-the-charts ridiculous, but even so, who fucking cares? Why is someone's gender identification so important to you? You're always on some trip about this and I just don't get it. Nobody is asking you to identify differently, so why does it matter so much? None of this is harming you in any way.

I have absolutely misgendered people, friends and strangers, to others and to their faces, and have yet to be "cancelled." It's pretty easy to own up to the mistake, apologize, and move on. Why does it matter? Because refusal to go along with it or even making a simple mistake gets you tarred and feathered as a transphobe, and can have very real consequences to both individual's careers, society and institutions.

This is about power, and language games are tremendously powerful tools.

It's a Byzantine social etiquette (not a good thing), and like any form of etiquette, it is designed specifically to divide.

I'm sure people were saying the same things when those darned coloreds wanted to use the same bathrooms as whitey. Or when those darn gays wanted to get married to each other. I don't think it's humiliating, though it's telling that you interpreted this as an attempt at humiliation. I do think though that if you have any experience with third gender people, you realize the singular they feels weird in the mouth for a little bit maybe and then becomes totally normal. It's not nearly as difficult as far-right shut-ins like Burt make it out to be.
