The roughing call on the last drive was egregious. So was the time out at the end of the game. The clock was at zero.
I’ve been saying this for years now (as many have), but football becomes less and less enjoyable every year. With all the rampant horrible officiating and the knowledge of head injuries, it’s less enjoyable than ever. Hell, at my local high school game on Friday night there were two ambulances called to the game before five minutes had passed in the second quarter. Each team having a player suffer a catastrophic injury. It’s just getting more and more difficult to find it entertaining. My 9 year old son has been asking to play tackle football for two years (he plays competitive flag football currently). I have always said no because of the dangers involved. During Friday’s high school game he turned and said to me “Dad, I get it now”.

This is why we stopped following football, basically. It's hard to completely turn it off because it's just pervasive, but we haven't sat down to watch a game in 2 years. I am 100% going to tell my sons "no" if they ask to play, and I can't really rationalize watching other people's sons get dementia every Sunday if that's the case. I suppose an argument could be made that at some point the players are responsible for their own health if they continue playing the game, but I have doubts that there's a robust education system in place to explain the dangers and repercussions to them (see: Gronkowski, Rob).
It may be a little extreme to put it this way, but if there was a newer/less popular game that was scientifically proven to cause CTE in 90% of its retired players, wouldn't EVERYBODY be looking to make that game illegal?
That being said, I can't wait to see Fitz break 17K career receiving yards this season.

This example is similar to what is driving me crazy about the upcoming vaping ban. 8 people die and we should immediately ban it, but cigarettes are still fine

Oh yeah, for sure man--a billion dollar industry built on turning (mostly black) men's brains into pudding by the time they're 45 while squashing efforts to publicize these dangers is exactly the same thing as deciding that people who say "ch**k" shouldn't be on national TV.

I also will not be letting my child play football. There are many other activities and sports that don't require him to bang his head against a wall. And I also have mixed feelings about watching it these days. I don't imagine I will stop anytime soon but I do wonder why it has to be played the way it is. Why does the ground have to be so hard? There are ways the game can be altered for peoples' safety.

It's the subconcussive hits, the repetitive small trauma of over and over running your body into someone else's body, even if you're not going that fast--ie what the linemen do. It could more resemble like, bouncy house equipment. The players would, like, bounce off eachother, ya know?

That's cool but you still have the problem of receivers flying through the air and their heads slamming against the hard hard ground. The ground should be like a bouncy house I say.
I agree with everyone else here, though--under no circumstances would my child ever play football (and hockey, boxing, etc, also would make me very nervous). But it's also a socioeconomic thing, in that my child won't have any need to play football in order to support their family. The league is already in a state where the most punishing jobs go to poor kids, and that's only going to get worse as people become more aware of the risks. I still do fantasy, because that's kind of abstracted, but I haven't watched a game, NFL or college, in a few years. One of the last things I remember is seeing a UF running back take a big hit and shit himself.
