Re: Post Random Movie-Related Thoughts You Have
I was watching this movie called The Next Three Days (Russell Crowe, Elizabeth Banks). It's a forgettable movie, but there was something weird about it.
The movie briefly introduces this cop character (Jason Berghe) who really has a hard on for busting this family and putting them in jail, but then he disappears about a third of the way into the movie, and a new cop character (Lennie James), with all of the same traits, replaces him. No reason why, he just shows up like super-cop and starts chasing Russell Crowe around. Then in the last few minutes, the other guy shows up again and takes over the role (the other guy is still there, but he takes a backseat).
It makes me think there was some kind of scheduling conflict or other problem, so they had to call in another guy. Since I've learned that this happens, I see (or think I see) it everywhere.
Or maybe its just bad writing.
Anyway whatever who cares.

I almost want to recommend the books to you just because of the explanations/non-explanations in the third book and explorations of ideas in the second.BurtReynolds wrote:There's some great imagery and scenes in that movie, and the overall brightly colored take on Lovecraftian type horror was pretty unique, I thought.bune wrote:The Annihilation Trilogy is one of my favorite books ever and the movie was a remarkable achievement in that I liked it Almost as much. The bear scene in particular freaks me out. I listen to the score probably twice a week, if not more. So unsettling.BurtReynolds wrote:Real sci fi bombs horribly. My favorite two movies lately were Blade Runner and Annihilation, and nobody else seemed to like them.E.H. Ruddock wrote:Most shit classified as "sci-fi" these days in Hollywood isn't really even. It's just big budget war and explosions in space. True sci fi delves into the human condition in an off-Earth or futuristic environment. Good sci fi, anyway, is cerebral.

The mixed reviews on Joker have me more intrigued.
I think Joaquin is a compelling actor, so the reviews complaining of him "overacting" give me a gigantic boner.

I was a little less inspired by that final trailer (than all previous promo material). But I can't imagine JP is anything but exceptional in this.

The Nolan Batmans were all apologias for Bush-era torture and strongman tactics, so this would be right in line.bune wrote:I read one that said he's basically an incel propaganda machine and that's the one that got me worried.

Watching an old horror movie with Denholm Elliot. He looked very much like Ewan Mcgregor when he was younger. Like an older not quite as good looking brother. Ewan should be Marcus Brody in the inevitable Indy remake!

The Phoebe Bridgers scene in the new Two Ferns movie seemed really out of place.

Im still shocked with how good Ari Aster is. Even if Midsommar is a mixed bag, is still a beautiful and well crafted movie. From the framing to the camera work, to the acting to the score, is just top notch.
And both Hereditary and Midsommar are so so fucked up. So dark. So careless about how to show that darkness.
Cant wait for more stuff from him.

I wish 6 Underground was released in the theaters because that movie is going to be bombastic as hell and streaming won't do it justice.
