I’m glad you enjoy it, man. But for the life of me, I can’t understand why you do.

I think "Backspacer" aged poorly in the relatively lengthy amount of time it was burdened with being "the new Pearl Jam album." But, I have always liked it, and certainly more than "Lightning Bolt," I feel like it offers something genuine -- not a "concept," necessarily, but a concentrated headspace, a snapshot of a moment in time, etc. -- that I feel compelled to return to periodically. "LB" by comparison was the first one that felt like pure holding pattern to me, a pastiche of tropes and archetypes ("Here's our obligatory slow moody piece," "here's our 2-minute punk rocker," "here's a couple rootsy/folky things," etc.) and -- for the first time -- nothing more.

Yeah, i agree. I love BS and its inherent fuck you attitude with songs like The Fixer or Got Some. Its PJ at its finest. I wish the production was better though, but with time i learnt to appreciate it more.

I love how good Jeff and Matt are here.

I listened to this the other day. Outside of the Amongst the Waves --> Supersonic stretch this is a fine album. Some really cool things going on.

It's official, the band has released one album in the past 10 years.

Woulda been a fine way to go out. After all those years of fighting the good fight, sending up a brief, fun celebration of the very real joy they had earned. Then, closing with a final track that opens with the question “what were all those dreams we had, those many years ago?”

I disagree. It is the only album of theirs that hasn't aged well or at least not dropped for me. LB hasn't gotten better, but it's ok. I skip most Backspacer songs that come on.

It's nice to see so much positivity surrounding this album. I haven't picked it up in over 5 years. It just didn't age well for me. Got Some>Fixer is skippable. It's the only Pearl Jam album where I don't enjoy tracks 2 and 3. There is lots of good stuff on here though. Jeff and Matt, Ed's voice, the production....I'm putting it on now. Thanks RM.

There are indeed some cool things going on with BS, but... well, it's still not really my thing. I think I'd still take it over LB though.

I actually do find this album to be much more enjoyable than the bolt. I still dont care for among the waves or unthought known but other than that its a pretty solid album. I love the last 4 song stretch.

Supersonic is also great. Though atrocious live.
