I'm surprised it's taking me so long to get around to reading that. What an amazing book

Finished Children of Men this weekend. It's a good to decent book but nothing I would tell people they should read. Maybe it was more interesting back when published? Anyway, I applaud the people who read it and brought that movie out of it because it was better in almost every way. I say almost because in the book the men were sterile and in the movie it was women's fault.

It would have been better without the travelogues by the main character that popped up every time a character was introduced and sometimes at random times. Pages and pages of conversation about nothing that really helped propel the story in any direction, forward, sideways, whatever.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

It really is. I also read it for the first time a couple years ago and it's the best. I need to put it on my son's reading list.

His AP English teacher gave them a list of books that they can choose from to read and write a ten-page paper on. Instead of picking something that looked interesting to him he picked one I was talking about a few weeks ago. I mean Ubik is a great book and I hope it's his first foray into the bigger world of sci-fi but at the same time dude look at the fucking list and ask questions. You're going to have to spend a long time reading and analyzing the book you pick, maybe take more than 10 seconds to think about it.

The sequencing at the end of The Plot Against America was very odd. Won't say much more since I know others are reading it right now.

Picked a more or less random book from my library next:

I *love* that book. If I was a Peninsularist I'd put it in my diss. God damn you're in for a treat.

I think the only VM I've read was Bartleby and Co. I only got a few minutes with this the other night but it has been great so far: funny, sweet, lyrical. It was a jarring shift between Roth's prose and this.

My all time favorite book. Not a very original choice, but there you. Have read it four times. There’s a part of Atticus Finch in my soul.
Have you read Go Set a Watchman?

About 25% of the way through Blindness. It's a weird part where there seems to be a narrator, even though the book to this point has not given any indication that there's a 'person' here. It's a strange move.
