the downton abbey movie is good. some contrived plot devices, but they pulled them off. maggie smith with all the lines as usual.

lord and lady grantham basically had nothing to do. no arcs whatsoever.

what I expected and no less.

Watched Terminator 1&2 last night with my son. He's becoming something of a PITA to watch movies with because he feels like he should comment about the whole thing. That plus the fact it is from the 80s meant I threw empty bottles at him more than once to get him to shut the fuck up.

That said, wow are both movies amazing. The only thing that I didn't understand was Arnold suddenly not having eyebrows for the rest of the movie at some point. They just...disappeared.

It was funny when T2 started because it plays so close to the first movie - Arnie arrives first, takes some clothes - that when the hallway scene started he was like "Wait, who's the bad guy here?" He really liked the T1000 effects and never once called them out for looking bad. Though maybe he was afraid I'd throw something at him? I wish it were easier to tell which version we were watching because there are so many different ones out there.

Oh and they were plastic bottles FTR.

Between Two Ferns - I was hoping for more than what was delivered.

Spiderman Far From Home. I think maybe I'm over the whole Marvel thing

The Death of Stalin. It was...ok? I mean as far as black comedies go the laughs were few and far between, but they were hearty at least.

Maybe a little too serious for a comedy.

I was 50/50 for who would post first, tbh.

My son really wanted to see it because he's got a friend who's big on Russian history and talks the whole thing up. We even went to Marx's grave while in England this summer because of it.

It's one of the darkest comedies I've seen in a while, and that's in no way a criticism. The comedy mixed with truly monstrous behavior was enthralling, at the risk of sounding too loathedverminian.

No, that's a very accurate statement. I mean one minute you're laughing at them for stepping in a puddle of piss and shit and the next you're hearing them talk about a nurse (I think?) who can find all the 'best' doctors and if nothing else is good at fellatio.

Jesus Christ.
Jason Isaacs is wearing fewer medals than the real General Zhukov. The director thought that the real number of medals was too unbelievable.

He was great. I loved how they made no attempt at Russian accents.

Newest Rambo. Standard issue old man revenge movie, only somehow lazier. The last one was better.

Do yourself a favor and watch Polar instead.

I would say that "Stalinist" is the one leftist epiteph I would wholly denounce, but Iannucci (VEEP) is fantastic and I've been meaning to see that one for a while.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.
