After 3 weeks in Greece where pilsner is king, I can't wait to get home and have an IPA, any IPA.

The next time I make it to Treehouse, I'll grab you a few of my favorites. I'm still very much an IPA guy. I think I've wrecked my pallet so much with them, that I can't really enjoy much else.

Yeah, I mean, they're still the best, but there is over saturation.

Do you like classic West Coast or the NEIPAs?

Same

Though I do find a lot to like about some darker beers as well. Porters and stouts and some Ambers. But I always come back to and feel most satisfied by the IPAs.

Yep. I like all types for the most part, but IPAs and Pale Ales are my overall favorites. Cold months are good for Brown Ales, Black Lagers, Stouts, Porters, etc...Pale Ales, session IPAs, Lagers, etc...are good in warmer months.

I'm not a big "seasons" guy when it comes to beers. I just want them when I want them

Oh man, I am. On hot summer days, I want nothing to do with dark roasted malty beers. I want crisp and clean. On cold days, the dark roasted malt thing is perfect. Bonus for dark beers in the colder months is that they're generally better to cook things like stews and chilis with over IPAs or basic lagers.

Most session IPAs don't have the bite/flavor that I like. They generally seem like a watered-down version of IPAs.

I've definitely noticed that, in general, I tend not to dig the session IPAs as much. I haven't had enough of them to pinpoint why exactly, but what you're saying r2d sounds right and makes sense as to why I haven't liked the few I've had as much as regular IPAs.

The style is inherently imbalanced with most giving you a burst of hop aroma and flavor initially and having nothing to back it up as far as the malt bill goes, from there it just tends to fade to nothing with 'watered down' being pretty spot-on. It is supposed to be 'light' as in lighter than an IPA but if you let most brands warm, not significantly but you don't chug it or happen to leave it in the sun for a few minutes, they almost immediately fall apart to the point of undrinkable.

Gotcha. I never actually knew what "session" meant. I've looked it up and read a bit about it now. What you and r2d are saying makes more sense to me now.

Just ordered my 4-pack of Belching Beaver Digital Bath IPA.

I'll have cans of 3 of the 4 Deftones collabs.

I'm not sure if I've had a specifically labelled West Coast IPA but I do like NEIPAs sometimes. Generally, I like hoppy beers that don't have too much alcohol.

I also buy beer for the name (and wine for the label) regardless of how it tastes.

Look, I get it. When you want a beer, you go with what you want. To me, that's a given. I'm just saying, on a hot ass day I rarely crave a sweet, roasted malt, milky, oatmeal type of dark beer. I want something crisp and refreshing. On the flip side, on a cold ass day, especially when I'm cooking a stew or something, a sweet, roasted malt type of beer works perfectly. I pretty much drink IPAs year round.

I don't usually go around buying beers for the cans, but Belching Beaver is a great brewery and I've turned into a pretty big Deftones fan.
