Who the fuck made this a new thread with my name on it??

Live by the sword I guess.

I’m not hopeful for this. I’m not even cautiously optimistic. And I hate saying that.

The guy had an entire mine to draw from. Fair enough he put some kind of shape on it.
But it’s all so forgettable

you guys are missing the obvious: it's a movie based on one of the Marvel comics. Duh.

also this is probably why Sony was so pissed about his producer duties being split.

1. I want.... no, I NEED Brie Larson to be in Star Wars. And not just as a bit player or cameo.

2. If Feige is producing a Star War, it makes sense for Brie to be in the Star War he's producing and I have no problem with that.

3. I actually can't wait for Star Wars without the Skywalkers. I think the only thing that disappoints (and that's an extreme word, but for lack of a better one) me about the ST is it's Disney's need to "rebrand" the whole thing the "Skywalker Saga." I actually wish we had less Skywalker in the ST. So, I'm pretty excited to see what the future holds in this regard.

4. Star Wars is awesome.

5. Brie Larson should be in everything.

I think I’m one of about 5 people that really enjoyed captain marvel.
I’m told she’s a complete sociopath bitch in real life and I don’t really care.
If she brings something to Star Wars I hope it’s good. That’s all.

I think we need more Skywalkers, not less, but unlike VG, I can fully enjoy SW without them as well. However, the ST could absolutely not have been made without them in the centre.

Captain Marvel was great.

I've never met Brie Larson and have no reason to think she's crazy or not. But this post is the first time I've heard someone say that about her. Doesn't mean I don't believe you. Just not something I've heard before. Obviously, I hope it's not true. She seems cool in the interviews/articles I've seen/read and I enjoy her Social Media.

Obviously, either way, she's SUPER talented and would be a welcome addition to Star Wars, though.

What? It was liked by a LOT people. A movie doesn't do that good if it isn't liked. (Unless it's Avatar).

Not with the way they've (re) structured it, no. But this whole thing is based on one dumb quote Lucas made a billion years ago. Things could have gone very differently. It's the other side of the JJ razor. I'm so thrilled he directed TFA. But he also forced a narrative by making the choices he made. No big deal. I love what we've gotten and I'm not complaining.

One thing I generally love about SW movies is they don't really use A-list movie stars. Sure some of them became stars after, but for the most part, even with the ST, that has been the case. I know the PT used them a little more. But, and this is just for me personally, bringing in too many big guns for a movie is what will make it too hollywood for me. I'm not saying just using Larson would do that, but once one A-lister says they want to do a SW movie and they let them, it might set a precedent. Again, these are just might personal issues.

I totally get what you're saying. I had to consciously let go of the same thing when Disney bought Lucasfilm. I love that SW has largely used unknowns and I'd personally love to see it stay that way. But I just feel like it's not going to happen anymore. Not with the amount of content they're creating. So, yeah, I'm with you, but I've also had to force myself to let it go so it doesn't bum me out too much.

I don’t love everything we’ve gotten, but I’m glad we got to see Han, Leia and Luke again.

No matter what came before, by 1983 it was obvious this (the episodes) was a story about the Skywalkers, and the prequels just confirmed it. It’s not based on one Lucas quote, it’s the whole story.

It is based on Lucas saying he had planned a "trilogy of trilogies." But he also said he wanted to make 12 at one point.

Had a new filmmaker come in and decided to set Ep 7 100 years after the events of Return of the Jedi, it would have been totally valid and totally different. Perhaps the Skywalkers would have played some part in that story as well, but if they hadn't, we wouldn't be talking about the ST in the same frame as we are now. 1-6 would have been "The Skywalker Saga" as it were.

In 1983 would you have said "oh, this is the story of The Skywalkers!" or would you have said, "it's the story of Luke Skywalker?"

I think most of us would have (or did say) said the latter. Then in 90s Lucas decided he needed to tell the story of Anakin. Then it became "this was always Anakin's story." Nice try, George.

This stuff is always shifting. All I'm saying is, the ST could have been about anything and still be valid and it didn't NEED Skywalkers until the phrase "Skywalker Saga" started getting floated around post-PT. The ST could have squashed that if it wanted to. Instead, it leaned in.
