well it's not about honor, it's about protecting humongous strides he made in his career over the last 20 years. He went from owning a successful aviation parts company to serving in the KS legislature, to running the CIA, to SoS in a relatively short time. And I'm skeptical he deserved those last couple titles, and he probably knows it. He's got way more influential people in his world than Trump, and he's got some years left yet to cement his legacy. He'd be a damn fool not to roll over.
My agreement with your conclusion is based at least in part on his previous public attempts to distance himself from the whole thing, and the fact that today’s story feels a lot like someone in the administration’s orbit chaining him to the mast before he can jump.
