I think Buddy Guy is my favorite blues guitarist. Goofy-ass polka dot stratocaster and all.

i think he's kind of hilarious in that documentary. The record producers are telling him to stop collecting welfare checks when in he's hauling in a few thousand for playing shows.

Re: The Blues Thread
The only thing that pisses me off about Buddy is he's all flash and dash live. I love him for his songs more than his guitar wanking but his concerts have way too much focus on watching him goofily show off.Soma. wrote:I think Buddy Guy is my favorite blues guitarist. Howlin' Wolf is usually my go to guy. I love how heavy he is and his voice. Moanin' at Midnight, holy shit.
Think I’m going to try being kind to everyone a chance.

I understand what you're saying, but that is the very reason I ever listen to blues. Its a showboating genre to me. I enjoy the spectacle, if only once in every long while.

I feel fortunate to have seen him in a small club, stood in the front row for the performance and then shook his hand at the end of the show. It was an incredible night.Harry Lime wrote:i think he's kind of hilarious in that documentary. I even listened to it. It shows what could have been with that first riff. Slow it down and have some lower register whispered vocals, maybe some simple kick and you have a much better track. Dark lyrics too.harmless wrote:Have you watched it?LetMeSleep wrote:This does not belong in here. Although it shows what could have been.harmless wrote:

Re: The Blues Thread
RL was one of my favourite live artists. Absolutely the most fun I've ever had at a show. Fat Possum had a great roster in the 90's. An Ass Pocket of Whiskey and Mr Wizard had so many plays back in the day.

I should've known it would be impossible to drop something funny in the Blues thread.LetMeSleep wrote:I even listened to it. It shows what could have been with that first riff. Haven't seen Jeff Lang for years (maybe a decade) but he does some nice folk blues.

That's what the genre has become but the old fellas didn't really even solo. Check out Skip James if you aren't familiar with him. His voice is like a moaning ghost. Him and his peers are where it's at.Soma. wrote:I understand what you're saying, but that is the very reason I ever listen to blues. Its a showboating genre to me.
