Re: Brexit
There's your problem: all the chuckleheads who say 'neither'. What is this, Schrodinger's Brexit?

The odd thing about that is it contradicts most polls which have Tories in a comfortable lead ahead of lib dems and Labour.

Re: Brexit
Not really, though. Remain is just spread out over more parties than Leave, effectively neutering the majority’s voice...exactly the kind of thing I expect would happen in the US if we had 4 to 6 major parties.
In the recent elections, the Brexit and Conservative parties took a combined 40.7% of the vote. The other 59.3% was just spread among too many parties to form an effective power structure.

Johnson has revealed his plan. It’s not going to fly.
Great thread breaking it down and full text...all 4 pages of it

When you know that your loyal voters are happy to be treated like idiots, and you haven’t got the cunning to win over literally anybody else.

At this stage any leaks from downing st or MPs are probably being orchestrated by Cummings. It’s all kite flying and attempts at sideshow to distract the media and everyone.
It’s working too.

My mistake. Looks like that document is actually real.
So they knew Johnson’s proposal wasn’t going to fly and now it’s blame game.
Today’s torygraph headline. (*there is no pressure on Dublin to accept the deal)

Here’s why you never again give the DUP a veto or ‘petition of concern’. They block everything all the time unless it suits them directly.
86 motions including marriage equality abortion and Irish language act blocked in just 5 years.

They blocked the Irish language? Does that mean it’s illegal for anyone to speak Irish?

Re: Brexit
My understanding is it would have done for the Irish language what the Welsh do for their’s. Give it equal status, which has a lot of impacts that help preserve active use.

Re: Brexit
Pretty much what McP said. They’re objecting to it being given equal status as it ‘threatens their identity’.wease wrote:They blocked the Irish language? Does that mean it’s illegal for anyone to speak Irish?
I’m not kidding.
Just means street signs would be in both languages and official government buildings and documents would have to have / be available in Irish.
That’s how fuckin insecure and bigoted they are.

I don’t even think I’ve ever heard the Irish language spoken.

Unlikely you have. Even though it’s older than English by a long stretch. We’d still all be using it except they wiped it out when they were here. Forced English on us. You’d be killed if you were heard speaking Irish.wease wrote:I don’t even think I’ve ever heard the Irish language spoken.

Yep. It’s the official language of the state just to mention. It’s Compulsory in primary and secondary school. I went to an all Irish school. Everything taught through Irish.
It’s taught so poorly tho. Long history going back to nuns and Christian brothers beating into kids.
Needs a revival. Not sure how to go about that tho
