Mike wrote:After having listened to it a few times the only thing I still don't like is the LIGHTNING BOLT part of the chorus. Considering that's only about 6% of the song I'm okay with it. :nice: And I bet that part will be better in the studio version because Ed sings it totally half assed at Wrigley. He always seems to look at his guitar and faces away from the mic halfway through singing LIGHTNING BOLT making it sound weaker than it probably is.
Hearing all the guitars and the bass clearly will also benefit the song. Stone is doing some cool stuff I think. Do you guys think this is a Stone song?

I really want to hear the studio version now.
I think it's an ed song !!!

Sirens/lightning bolt/infallible is going to be amazing 15 minutes !!!

I like that it seems to have a little momentum, energy and peak. That's something Unthought Known lacked, and which GTF had in spades. I'm not waiting for another GTF, I just hope that this song in studio has something to seriously distinguish it from Unthought Known.

It doesn't really sound like Ed's writing style and he doesn't play guitar on it; it's almost certainly not a Vedder-penned song.

I'd guess Stone too.

Oh.

It still doesn't feel very Vedder-esque (to me, anyway) but I guess we'll find out in due course.

Yep, as in generic 'rock-and-roll'. The kind of palm-muted intro you do until you've thought of something better.

Still, sounds like him with an acoustic guitar in Maui thinking.." i need something fast here". MFC/UK/PORCH..you name it.

Definitely. But I like it, and I'm realising how insignificant that chorus is. It acts much like other Pearl Jam choruses: a transition to get to the more interesting parts.

Im looking forward to the studio version of this...the live version, while it was somehow a mess it was interesting.
I just hope the guitars sound like fucking Vs or Yield instead of fucking keyboards.

The guitars on MYM have me excited that even on this song, they might be fuller. But I have no clue because no one will let me hear the fucking thing...

I hope it sounds like Undone. Something remind me of Undone in Lightning Bolt. That probably won't happen.

Yeah I know what you mean. The tone isn't downbeat but it still rocks.

It's also because Eddies vocal melody is similar too the riff in both songs.

Well, you mentioned the generic intro from Ed. Matt has one too, when he plays live, and it's the same here as it is in Corduroy. I hope the intro is more creative on the album but it probably won't be. Other than that, yeah he's good here. Still too much ride cymbal, but it works better here than on MYM.

I guess if Ed *does* do the typical chug-chug-chug-chug on the guitar, it would be nice if it sounded like the intro of All Night. But it won't.

It's a grower. I downright hated it at first. That happy riff... Ughhh...
Somehow it doesn't make me cringe anymore. Who knows, maybe it'll sound rich in the studio. I do like the melody when the lyrics go "always something, never nothing". And I do like the solos and the outtro. It may have a yield kind of sound in the end, and that's a good thing.
