Completely agree with this. Kind of irritating, actually
I don't agree but I understand what you mean.

Never really bothered me they weren’t there. More time to develop the Kylo and Rey of it all.

Why not? I guess to me they are no different than say the Sith Troopers. They weren't around at all in the first two movies, why bring them in now? Or the Ewoks. They weren't in the first two movies, why bring them in now?

Maybe I'm not assigning or anticipating as much significance to them as others? But either way, there's so little time that passes between 7 & 8 that I think it would have been weird to see them then. The big question, that I think is totally valid, is where were they during TFA? And I think we'll get some kind of easy answer to that. So it doesn't bother me.

Good point. They’re only in that flashback. Or was it a flash foward?

This could well play into the story. I doubt they’re all that important overall. Wouldn’t worry too much on it

We’ll have to wait and see how important they are. I’m sure JJ would have put them in XIII if he had directed that movie.

Go with me for a minute.
You’d wonder why Snoke has 8 praetorian guards? Surely he’s all powerful and doesn’t need them? But given the abusive relationship he has with Kylo we don’t know Kylo hasn’t stood up to him before with the KOR at his back.

So I think there’s loads to be explored there. Can’t wait for the Kylo comic to find out. They’re a pretty big part of it.

One of the KOR action figure packs suggests a Kylo has had them searching the galaxy for Sith artifacts. (Not Rey, weirdly.)

Their absence can easily be explained onscreen. They return empty handed or not with what he wanted and he’s furious etc.

You can do that in two lines / one scene

I mean, I get it. And to Anders' "why bring them in now?". Seems to be kind of the norm for Star Wars, right? Boba Fett, Phasma, Snoke for that matter... DZ or whatever his name was.

Hated the character and portrayal.
He’s probably my biggest problem with the last Jedi

Yes. I wanted so much for him to be Ezra, that anything else just was disappointing.

If Snoke is dead what's the point of the guards attacking Kylo and Rey? They have no need to defend the honor of a dead dude. Get the hell outta Dodge!

Phasma was handled poorly, Snoke is a joke. I have no problem with DJ or Boba Fett.

My thoughts on the Knights of Ren:

There were two instances in the OT that are similar to the KOR intro in Episode VII

-The Emperor
ANH: it's discussed the Emperor has disbanded the Senate ,yada yada yada
ESB: the Emperor makes an appearance via hologram and some dialogue
ROTJ: the Emperor joins the characters and plot and is a significant part of the finale.

-Jabba the Hutt
ANH: Greedo warns Han Solo about how Jabba is displeased. Han solo loading his credits to go pay off his debt at Yavin. (disregarding the SE insertion of Jabba)
ESB: "If I don't pay off Jabba the Hutt I'm a dead man." Ohhh, interesting!
ROTJ: Jabba makes his entrance, and we realize why Han Solo was worried about him.

Knights of Ren
TFA: Something about Kylo being part of the knights of ren and a flashback/forward (ok, he seems to be the leader of a little bad boys club)
TLJ: Nothing
TROS: they pop into the movie. Do they have dialogue?

I guess it could work but the OT shows how it was done in an interesting way.

Good comparisons though, thanks for that. Hadn't really thought about those examples.

Was Phasma handled poorly, or did the fans with the years long speculation prop her up to be a much bigger role than JJ assigned her?
