The administration probably believes impeachment for obstruction is less catastrophic for their reputations and their lives than ever letting this story come out.
It’s ostensibly just a rebranding of the obstruction they were already engaged in, but it’s also the first stirrings of an argument that says impeachment is unconstitutional. Refuse all document and interview requests, leave them with only obstruction to impeach you on, McConnell then protects you in the senate while calling the whole thing a kangaroo court. “The Democrats irresponsibly rushed to impeachment without ever seeing or showing any evidence” etc.
With this letter the trifecta of arguments is complete: a sitting president can’t be indicted, you can’t impeach the president because he won the election, and the evidence you can’t look at is related to us trying to fix the election.

I found this to be positively thrilling audio reporting.
Meanwhile, Trump refuses to pay annual UN dues to the tune of $1 billion. The UN is worried they won't be able to pay their bills. Just like all of Trump's businesses and his campaign. You'd think since it was someone else's money, he wouldn't have a problem with this being paid.
More interesting is the independent numbers, with indies favoring Trump over Pence by just 57-43. As for the 21% figure, I'd expect the machinations to roll out all manner of pro-Pence talking points over the next several weeks to see if there are any issues that might get those numbers higher.
