i think it was the new york times that posted an article about declining attendance in the game over the course of the past 2 years. in the last year alone teams have seen a collective drop of around 1 million fans. the article then went on to list things such as tv rights, lack of competitiveness, length of games, and basically everything but how much it costs.

this will be the first year in 23 years that i haven't seen a cubs home game (i saw them twice in miller park and once in miami). i gave up my season tickets and i've never looked back. earlier this year i pulled up 4 tickets for wrigley in the 100 section (the second section up) between the dugout and the old bullpen. the total cost, including fees? $735. fuck. that.

I totally agree that cost is seriously prohibitive, especially when you have three kids and have to factor in parking costs and food/drinks. I take my kids to one game a year because of that fact.

it's really sad. people will always come back and say that you can get seats for $35 or so without recognizing that (a) you're still spending over $100 on food and drink for a family of 4, and (b) those seats down the line in the upper deck which, at that point, it's better to watch the game from your couch on your hdtv.

The Braves spent 5 years doing nothing but collecting pitching.

All of a sudden not one of them can pitch worth a shit.

This fucking team. This fucking town.

Fuck it. It’s not even worth watching.

Might as well be Charlie Leidbrant pitching.

Only 3 “collected” pitchers have been successful - Fried, Foltynewicz, and Newcomb.

It’s a gut punch to be swept again by the Yankees. But you are right, it was a great season. It was so much fun as a fan. Just a brutal last 3 games.

I have NEVER understood bringing a starter into a game in relief in the playoffs. I don't care if hes your best pitcher.
Starters have routines, pitching out of the pen is a whole other animal

Some guys have been brilliant in that role. Madison Bumgarner basically won a WS doing just that. Scherzer has had dominant performances too.
