Re: 11th album rumors and speculation
I was busy most of the day. Was there an album or tour announcement like everyone thought there would be?

Jeff was at Joseph Arthur's show in Seattle. Hopefully RNDM gets back together. Pearl Jam sucks.

I just went on Alternative Nation and this is one of their headlines: "Kurt Cobain Daughter Touches Self In Photo"
It is an entire article about this Instagram post

That would not be very far out of character.Higgs wrote:Does this mean "You are all fucking idiots for thinking there was any announcement at all coming, now go away. There was never any news at all, you imbeciles."B wrote:At least he also hates Alternative Nation.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

Re: 11th album rumors and speculation
The reality of the situation:
Any band that doesn't just up and call it quits, or disband by default in the wake of a member's death, will eventually reach the point where Father Time beats them into submission. You stick around long enough, and it will inevitably happen to you. As many here would profess, this has happened to Pearl Jam ... a once great band now hanging on as a shell of their former selves.
So let's be realistic: You knew this was going to happen. WHEN did you expect it to happen. In the early days I always told myself I'd be happy if PJ stayed together until all the guys turned 50 and if they retired at that point, it would have been a hell of a ride. They're now about 10 years past that point with one album to show for it.

In all honesty, when No Code dropped, I called it the ultimate victory. Everything since has been pure gravy.

Re: 11th album rumors and speculation
Sorry my bad. They all started turning 50 about 4-5 years ago. During the third Lightning Bolt tour.
Except for Boom who is like 93 now or something.

Re: 11th album rumors and speculation
For me, it has all been a slow roll downhill in neutral since the Yield Tour. It is an interesting spot they are in though given that at least some amount of people want them to continue to make new music, but when you think about their ages and being 10 albums in, and the lack of quality music since that time, what are they really going to have to say?
We already know they don't like Trump, or war, or Republicans, they are all rich, married I guess if they want to be, and so what is new for them to explore lyrically--as a rock band? If they just end now, how anti-climactic would that be? "Well, Ed never called anyone back, so we just never got back in the room together--that's how Pearl Jam ended over a 6-year span of time."
In an alternate reality where they did not pull back and did not self-sabotage, what would their story be? Maybe 1 or 2 more great albums after Yield, then implode and walk away with Ed on a solo career? I wonder if when they made those choices what they hoped the end would look like or how soon it should be.
Maybe the only reason they did not end were the tours.

Re: 11th album rumors and speculation
I think why they haven’t pulled the plug is complicated to them.
Rabid hard core fans, an extensive/ expensive support network and a feeling they made it past contemporaries who’ve previously crashed and burned. The ‘Survivor’ mantle weighs heavy.
Perhaps they’re overthinking it. Eddie seems stuck in limbo as even his solo output is thin at best.
Limbo of this length is not good. Either shit or get off the pan.
