Star Wars: Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker

The movie (episode IX) coming up is the biggest thing in the Star Wars universe. But I also think the books, comics and games will be able to open up after its release. Will hopefully see some really solid releases, with lots of answers.

I’m told that new book, the one with Poe on the cover, is essential pre reading for the film.

Come on, all you guys and gals that were around in 1983...

You thought the Emperor was dead. The rebels saved the galaxy from the tyrannical Empire. Vader helped save his son and redeem himself and turned good to defeat the Emperor.



Palpatine being back is lazy. They must have an Oscar winning reason why he’s back or they wouldn’t do it. Oh heck who am I kidding....they just pulling stuff outta their asses.

Yes i believed that. I felt satisifed with the ending. It was marvelous.

however, im now an adult and I can process this idea that maybe things didn't forever stay perfect and happy and here we are.

I love the OT as much as anyone (no disrespect intended to the lovers out there), but it was obvious things would change if they made new movies, even if it was Lucas himself who did it. Out of all the changes they have made, Sidious being back, while significant, doesn't seem like something to complain about. It's typical Star Wars.

I think of all the changes (Han and Leia ending up divorced with a mass murderer for a son, Sidious back. the new republic failing so miserably, Han dying, Leia back to leading the resistance, etc), the changes to Luke are the ones that felt most off for me. And still that would have been acceptable, if that movie was any better.

Lucas did plan for a third trilogy to wrap it all up. The only parts we know of was Luke was to be the teacher and there’d be a Jedi killer possibly from among his students.

They didn’t stray all that far from that as little as we know.

They didn’t stray all that far from that as little as we know.

We also know that Luke was in exile and reluctant to return. And that there was to be a young female Jedi (Kira) seeking Luke's help. And that Han and Leia's had kids. And that the new trilogy was to explore the inner workings of the Force from a micro-biotic level.

A long time ago, I don't know where i heard it...it could have been a magazine rumor or something from TV (it was in the 80s I think), there was rumor/story that George Lucas said that a villain in Episode III would return to be the villiain for Episodes 7 - 9. Like this evil person was encased in carbonite, or phantom zone like Zod ,or something else. At the time I thought it was interesting.

30 something years later, it kinda came true. Palpatine was the evil baddie in 3, and comes back for 9.

I get it. I understand stuff would change if George were making 1-3 and 7-9. At the time this was the farthest thing from people's minds. We never thought these other episodes would ever be made.

It just feels they went about it in a weird, unsatisfying way.
