True. When you build canon with only three films (77-83) it's very easy not to get too complicated.durdencommatyler wrote:That's the inherent hitch in building canon over 40 years.Coach wrote:If this had been explained or happened in the any of the movies, it would make selling it a lot easier to fans not familiar with the off screen canon stuff. In fact, if they showcased that in the OT, the ending to ROTJ would be even better - yeah, the emperor is dead, but is he really dead??? (assuming we saw another sith inhabit an object, but I can't recall ever seeing that).dimejinky99 wrote:They have some serious explaining to do on Palpatine.
Or at least a difficult path to selling it and making it satisfying and believable.
Could be just morning cranks but I dunno.
We know he can’t force ghost but we know Sith spirits can inhabit objects.
How to explain onscreen though
When you build canon after 9 saga films , 2 stand alones, 1 tv show, several animated shows, dozens of books and comics, it gets a tad more complicated.

You'd think after all those years of fighting in life that in the afterlife they'd go with neutral gang colours, but whatever.....durdencommatyler wrote:would certainly make senseblueviper wrote:if the force ghosts have had the blue tinge to them...

Sure. But that's what I said. Building canon over 40 years vs building it over 6 years. Let's not act like Lucas didn't change his mind a ton between 1977 and 1983. And then he obviously completely changed his mind AGAIN and furthermore by the late 90s. Even if we disregard all the stuff that wasn't introduced by Lucas, this thing has evolved and changed so many times.blueviper wrote:True. Are you bothered by Maul's not being dead?

Not bothered because I don't really care about the PT anymore (or the expanded stuff he's in) but I think it was a mistake to bring him back. If you have Maul making a comeback and now Palpatine, it's almost like a comic book at this point.durdencommatyler wrote:Sure. But that's what I said. But this thing has always been just like that. It's in the SW DNA.blueviper wrote:Not bothered because I don't really care about the PT anymore (or the expanded stuff he's in) but I think it was a mistake to bring him back. To me the Maul thing is even worse than the Palpatine thing because what happened to Maul.... no one should be able to come back from that.

"Watching this man's reaction reminds me that to countless fans around the world, it's much, much more than we ever dreamed it was"
And that's really the whole point. Frankly, on both sides.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker
how much of the regular cinema going audience has read all of (any of) the books/comics/whatnot? i'm guessing it's a pretty low number.. so if they're going to use concepts/themes in this movie that are reliant on that stuff then... ehh.. that's dicey.dimejinky99 wrote:BV might be onto something.
How many of the regular cinema going audience will know there can’t be Sith ghosts?
How about they just break the ‘rule’ and make him a Sith ghost?
If any Sith could find a way it would be Palpatine.
You’d see the majority of the hardcore fans to for that I reckon.
They do something new with the force each film.
Groundwork for it is laid out in ROTS
tying back to what i said about my wishes for this trilogy.. a first movie, focused on the re-emergence of the empire/sith/bad guys could have laid this groundwork.. you know.. on screen for everyone.
coulda, shoulda, woulda..

with the image of the Ghost and Outrider and other ships, do you think we'll see the people that are in these ships in the movie? Say in the background during a mission briefing or running in the background at a base?

All they have to do is do one shot from a few of the cockpits .. five or ten seconds as lando or someone is broadcasting to the fleet from the falcon doing a pep talk
We could see anyone.
So easy.
They should do it.
They won’t though
