Re: TV: Watchmen (HBO)
I forgot to mention in my long post yesterday that Don Johnson was great in this. As soon as he started singing at that dinner, I knew he was a goner, which made me sad thinking that he won't come back (I imagine flashbacks are always a possibility).

This week on The Watch podcast there's a 10-minute conversation about the connections between this episode and Oklahoma! I was very here for this.

i think 'who killed the sheriff' will be the/an underlying story - much like 'who killed the comedian' was - so i don't think we've seen the last of him. i hope so anyway, i agree he was great in this.Simple Torture wrote:I forgot to mention in my long post yesterday that Don Johnson was great in this. i did read a story about lindlehof always wanting to do a show that subverted expectations by killing off a perceived main character in the first episode. in the original writing process for lost, lindlehof had jack (who he'd hoped to have been played by michael keaton) dying at the end but was eventually convinced not to do that. so being able to do watchmen gave lindlehof the opportunity to fulfill that fantasy.

This is excellent. We need more “remixes” (as Lindelof puts it) of established IP to keep things fresh. Those complaining about the “liberal politics” of this version are likely insecure white dudes who don’t understand enough about US history.

The moment where Angela pretended to be afraid of Laurie was such a great character beat.

Watched Ep2, liked it better than the pilot, felt like there was a plot brewing.

Re: TV: Watchmen (HBO)
There is a track on the soundtrack called "Orphans of Krypton". Hot Take....instead of using a Flashpoint movie as a way to "fix" the DCEU Warners uses future seasons of this show (along with Green Lantern and Strange Adventures) to adapt Doomsday Clock and reboot the movie continuity keeping what the want (Wonder Woman) and changing what they don't (Batfleck). The same way Disney is using Disney+ Marvel content to set the stage for future MCU phases.
